Who we are
Gabbr (“Gabbr”, “we”, “us”) is the data controller for the personal data described on this page. For any privacy question, email [email protected].
What we collect
- Creators: email address, handle, display name, bio, profile picture, per-minute price and availability settings.
- Callers: the display name you type before a call, and the record of that call (length, price, time).
- Payments: handled entirely by Stripe. Card numbers never reach Gabbr's servers. We store Stripe identifiers so we can match payments, refunds and payouts to calls.
- Technical: IP address and browser information in server logs, used for security and rate limiting.
Call audio
Calls are peer-to-peer WebRTC audio between the two browsers. Gabbr does not record, store or listen to call audio. Audio may be relayed through a TURN server if a direct connection cannot be made; relayed audio is encrypted in transit and is not retained.
The language filter and speech recognition
When a creator has the language filter switched on, each participant's browser transcribes their own microphone using the browser's built-in speech recognition. In Chrome and Edge this means your speech is sent to Google's speech recognition service for transcription. Gabbr does not receive or store those transcripts — they are used in your browser to check for prohibited language and then discarded.
If you do not want your speech transcribed by a third party, a creator can switch the filter off in their settings, and you can decline the call. Browsers without speech recognition (such as Firefox) do not transcribe anything, and the filter does not run.
How we use your data
To run calls, take payment, pay creators, prevent fraud and abuse, and meet our legal and accounting obligations. We do not sell personal data and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
- Stripe — payments, refunds and creator payouts.
- Supabase — database, authentication and realtime infrastructure.
- Vercel — hosting.
- Google — speech recognition, as described above, when the filter is on in a Chromium browser.
A caller's display name is shown to the creator and may appear on the creator's public live stream through the Gabbr overlay. Do not use a name you would not want broadcast. Creators can switch name display off.
How long we keep it
Call and payment records are kept for six years to meet accounting and tax requirements. Creator profiles are kept until the account is deleted.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or EU you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, object to processing, and request a copy in a portable format. Email [email protected] and we will respond within one month. You may also complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).
Children
Gabbr is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
